SOUTH GEORGIA GLOBAL METHODIST CHURCH

What are your experiences and areas of service that you believe will be valuable in your role as a General Conference delegate?

After a 30-year career in tech, God rekindled a call heard shortly after being saved while at the University of Georgia. I’ve been blessed as God has repurposed and utilized my experiences and gifts for His service.

The tech industry provided organizational and analytical experience, project management expertise, and interpersonal skills managing large teams. In parallel, the church provided a foundation of Biblical understanding and an important perspective as I served in lay leadership (including SGAUMC Lay Delegate and WCA Global Legislative Assembly Delegate).

In this new season, God sent me from Asbury Theological Seminary to becoming a UMC LLP at Antioch Church, leading it through disaffiliation. Over the last two years, I had the opportunity to serve as a volunteer and now as Executive Officer of the SGAGMC. In this role, I’ve been blessed to assist churches, build web and social media resources, develop a church data management system, and serve the day-to-day needs of the conference. Recently ordained a GMC Elder, I feel honored to be appointed to serve in these first days of the SGAGMC.

I hope this diverse set of experiences make me well-suited to continue to serve the SGAGMC as a General Conference Delegate.

Describe why you believe that God has potentially called you to serve as a General Conference delegate.

In February 2019, I had the opportunity to attend the Special Session of the UMC General Conference. What I observed was eye opening — a wake up call to the state of the church which had been brewing for years. Upon my return, the voice of God was clear — that I with others needed to be conduits of clarity and information in the continued reformation of the church. While the season has changed, the need that started years ago continues.

From my early work in the WCA, the Traditional Methodists of South Georgia, and now in the GMC, I’ve heard and pursued the movement of God in the authentic tradition of John Wesley. With 30 years in secular industry in management and leadership roles, and now 3 years in ministry serving as a Senior Pastor in a church and as the Executive Officer of the South Georgia Annual Conference, I feel that I have an excellent foundation and perspective into the needs of this new Methodist tradition. In my role, I interact with laity, clergy and the Transitional Book of Discipline as I serve the needs of the local church each and every day. This places me in an ideal position to speak to the needs of the local church and the SGAGMC in the legislative work of the General Conference.

I believe God’s timing of call into ministry coinciding with this major shift in the church is purposeful. My passion for the church and the beliefs and practices represented in the Wesleyan tradition is one worthy of prayer, stewardship, and hard work. I believe I have been called not only to be participate in this effort in our annual conference and in my local church, but in this wonderful global movement known as the Global Methodist Church.
