Hale Bishop
Skidaway Island Methodist
What are your experiences and areas of service that you believe will be valuable in your role as a General Conference delegate?
Successfully led a church through the process of disaffiliation. I have served on numerous conference boards through UMC such as Board of Ordained Ministry, liaison for the UMC to St. Joe's / Candler Hospital in Savannah, District boards of ordination as well as leader of cluster. I have served as mentoring elder on several occasions. Also I have been included with the larger church pastors to have frank conversations with the previous bishops about the direction of the UMC. I believe that prayer and discipleship are key to our progress going forward and I am committed to those issues. I have a core faith that is Biblically based but desire to be open to conversations that lead people toward the GMC and toward faith in God's Holy Word and Truths.
Describe why you believe that God has potentially called you to serve as a General Conference delegate.
I have entered the GMC almost as unknown because of my concern for my local church and to honor their decisions. Following our movement to the GMC, I am very encouraged by what I see and understand. I wish to be able to step forward in leadership and hopefully I come from a place that many have come. Broken over the decision to vote in a church, but excited over the direction we are heading. This change has enlivened my church and certainly has given me energy and excitement as we move forward in God's leading. I intend to be in prayer for our denomination each step of the way and seek God's will for us all.
